Potomac River Fishing Report - 29 August 2010

I just finished fishing the Potomac for 3 out of the last 4 days. Each day we caught some very nice bass. The big ones right now are very diificult to catch and are mixed in with the keeper size bass that are 13-14 inches. Grass abounds everywhere and the trick is to find what part of the grass the bass are living in. In many areas the grass is so thick that it actually looks like a light green carpet. The Potomac River continues to have a murky light brown color and the normally clear grassy areas are cloudy. You can catch the bass on shallow running crankbaits, chatterbaits, and a variety of plastics. You have to work hard for the bites and they will come if you stay with it. Topwater should get better with the cooler nights but another heatwave is forecast for most of this week. Water temepratures rose into the low 80's sunday afternoon as the air temperature climbed into the low nineties. There is a good morning bite right now and then you need to play the tides and make sure that you are fishing moving water with a horizontal current flow. Fishing will only get better as we move toward the fall feeding frenzy on the Potomac. See you on the water.

I am available to guide you right now to some fantastic Potomac River bass fishing.
