This morning was very cold. In my front yard everything was white with frost. My roof, my yard, my Chevy Suburban, and yes even my Ranger boat cover had a white frost coating this morning as I hooked my Ranger and headed out for the river. In many places surrounding the Washington DC metro area the temperature got as low as 24 degrees. The great news is that even with these very cold nightime temperatures the bass continue biting in the Potomac River. We caught some really nice Potomac Bass today once the sun got up and started warming the water a little bit. The water temperature is still around 48 degrees but expect this to fall as the nights continue to be cold. We had several bass today that were well over 2lbs and one that went very close to 4lbs. Slow moving plastics are the key, most bites came when almost dead sticking the bait near dropoffs in 3-10 feet of water. Yes there are still a few bass relating to milfoil that has a healthy green color. We noticed this afternoon that grass is continuing to breakup and finding areas of healthy milfoil will become more challenging as the weather continues to get colder. Early next week were are expecting milder temperatures again and the bass should continue chomping on slow moving plastics and jigs. Catching Christmas Potomac bass is fun and a great way to take a break from the shopping malls. A couple of Christmas videos are below.
