Potomac River Fishing Report - 13 April 2012

The past week the Northwest winds have been howling and creating some rough seas on the Potomac. The great news is that the bass are really biting if you can find some sheltered areas that are somewhat protected from the winds. The cold nights have brought the water temperature back into the mid 50’s and we have seen evidence that some of the bass in the river are already spawning by looking at their tails showing signs of fanning beds. We continue to be impressed by the size and the health of the bass. Many of the beautiful largemouth we are catching range from 2-6 lbs. They are eating a variety of baits that include chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, sugar shads, rattle traps, Xcaliber one knockers, The mild winter has kept the bellies of most of the bass fat and they are feasting on red crayfish, yellow perch, shad, and probably a snake head now and then. Yes we are already catching snakeheads and they are showing up in the same areas with the bass. This weekend the temperatures will be heating up an so will the bass fishing on the Potomac. It is a perfect time to tie on some rope (heavy line)and go out to catch some monster Potomac bass. See you on the river and have a great week!
