The Potomac River bass are doing well with the cool July weather. We caught some beautiful bright green bass last weekend. They were all in excellent shape and put up some outstanding fights. The bass can be found in the healthier Potomac grass beds and around wood. We caught several very small bass as well as some larger ones indicating that there have been some very good spawns over the last few years. The best times for the bite right now is the falling tide. Catching them on the incoming tide last weekend was a challenge. If you stayed with it you could still catch a few good ones. A variety of baits are working including plastics, jigs, and spinnerbaits. If you get into the right areas topwater can provide you some explosive action. Some of the biggest bass I have caught over the past month have been on top water buzz baits. This week looks really good for calm winds and there should be ample opportunities to catch some big Potomac River bass.
